All in all this was not a bad activity.
I did learn about a few things. Some of the activities I was already familiar with, but it did start me thinking about other applications for their use. I still doubt that I will use most of the features we explored, but it is nice to know about their existence. I love that one commercial that says "Now 26% of those watching this will not have any idea what Twitter is." and I can say, "But I do."

Thing #10
This is the headline for the Roselle Public Library in the News BankMark your calendar Things to do in DuPage County Today Tuesday - 21 Wednesday 22
In Heritage Quest I am guessing that in the 1860 census th 51 year old was Abrahan Lincoln the President. I looked at Grolier Online for the first time. There is a lot of information on that site. I like our Databases and encourage our patrons to use it whenever I have the opportunity to suggest it.

Thing #9 Lifelong Learning
This thing I wholeheartedly agree with. I love the internet for this exact reason. I like to learn new things and the internet makes learning always available. I love to talk with learned people also because you learn so much from them. I discovered when we were in Wisconsin that the thing I missed was not the TV but the internet. Never thought I would think that.

thing #8 Online APPs
This idea I was not familiar with. I like the idea and for someone like me who works a lot of hours between 3 different companie and home I see a good use for these. My only concern is what happens if your computer goes on the fritz? What if there is a "Brown Out"? I know these are rare, but do also know that it happens. _ _ it happens! I do not like being so dependent on technology. I prefer toting around a memory stick. This is probably the future because there are a lot of people who take work home and it beats carrying around everything.
Thing #7 WIKIs
I have a family WIKI which I started. It is nice but my family finds it too much of a bother. They are not Techie people. My nieces and nephews send me pics of their kids when they want and see no real reason to use a WIKI. I would think that if you had a special interet you could either start one for that specialty or join one. I find it had to find the time to continue to follow things like this.
Thing #6 IMmmmmming!
Thing #6
IMmmmming! It can be fun. I can see how it can be useful for companies that have to talk to each other while they are in cubicles or offices. Istead of running over to someone's office only to find them not there you could IM them and wait till they answer you. Similar to using a message machine, I guess. I am sure it can be fun as well. i have used it for taling to my friends in other states.

Thing #5 Watchin the show!
There are some pretty nice views to be had on these podcasts, if you have the time. I enjoyed some of the comedy. I tried to view the presidents but there were interruptions in the cast. I will try some other time. Maybe I can see some of the movies, TV programs that I like and miss because of working in the evenings.
I imagine that the library could use these podcasts to show previews of programs coming to the library. Show last years program instead of pictures. This is only if people do not mind being broadcast on the internet, forever.

Thing #4
I will try this again. I saved and everything but it doesn't show on my blog. I use Snapfish for our photo sharing. We have used it for 2 years and have been very happy with it. We have ordered pics and cards from them.

Thing #3
Adding a friend is easy to do. Searching is also easy in Facebook. I am sure this could also become addicting if you have the time.
The anonimity of the social networking makes it easy and fun for poeple to be whomever they want to be. I imagine you can communicate with many people at one time which could be fun and helpful.
I am somewhat familiar with social networking. There was nothing really surprising.
I suppose dissemination of information could be helpful by using the social network, but other than that I do not see real uses for it.

Thing 2 RSS
I thought I posted this but I guess I did not. RSS's can be very helpful, but I am afraid that they can get out of hand just as easily as email does. You have to be vigilant with both of them.

Thing #1: Blogs
Creating blogs can be fun, especially if you have something to say. Which as you all know, I am always quiet and unassuming and have very little to add to any conversation.
You know what they say about "assume" don't you? If not let me know and Iwill enlighten you.
My problem with blogs is that everyone can read what you say. It is sort of like telling one sister how you feel and the next day you other sister asks you why you feel that way. It is kind of like playing telephone, by the time it gets to the end it is always off topic.
I hope you all have fun!
